- W114245097 abstract "A new model for electron dosimetry in the bone and marrow was presented at this meeting in 1994. The results of this model, when combined with the existing photon absorbed fractions of Cristy and Eckerman, provide a complete and up-to-date picture of the bone and marrow dosimetry of radioactive materials which locate in the skeleton. In addition, it was shown that this model can also give some estimate of the absorbed dose to the marrow in different regions of the skeleton, thus providing an estimate of the regional absorbed dose profile, which can as well be converted into a dose-volume histogram. This new model was used to re-evaluate the previously reported radiation dosimetry of several agents which localize in the bone and/or marrow, including monoclonal antibodies, bone imaging agents, and bone pain palliation agents. The residence times established for these agents were entered into the MIRDOSE 3 software (which employs the new model), the MIRDOSE 2 software (which uses the bone and marrow dose model suggested in ICRP 30, Pergamon Press, 1979), and were also used with S-values from MIRD Pamphlet No. 11. In cases, in which S-values from MIRD Pamphlet No. 11 were not available, they were calculated usingmore » the methods of that document. In general, marrow doses calculated using the new model are significantly lower than those estimated using the ICRP 30 model and slightly lower than those predicted using MIRD 11. The ability to evaluate the regional absorbed dose is a significant improvement over either previous method. This new model should thus form the basis for bone and marrow dosimetry at this time and should be employed by regulators, physicians, and others to evaluate the radiation risk of agents with significant skeletal uptake.« less" @default.
