- W1151743749 abstract "This chapter attempts to develop a physiological model of aggression, and then to examine some of the implications of that model for aggression control. The chapter suggests that the following kinds of aggression exist: predatory, inter-male, fear-induced, maternal, instrumental, irritable, and sex-related. Each of these types of aggression, with the exception of instrumental, has different underlying neural and hormonal determinants. It is obvious that no single model can fit each of these in detail. It is possible, however, to identify mechanisms or types of mechanisms that are similar for all or most of the different types of aggression. The basic premise of this model is that in the brains of animals and humans there are neural systems that, when fired in the presence of a relevant target, result in aggressive or destructive behavior towards that target. In the case of humans, the actual aggressive behavior may be controlled, but the individual will still have the appropriate feelings of hostility. There is now abundant evidence to support that premise." @default.
