- W1151831416 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on the radioligand-binding procedures that are used to characterize a corticosteroid receptor in neuronal membranes using Taricha brains. Radioligand binding can be a powerful tool for the discovery and characterization of new receptors, the understanding of receptor regulation, and the elucidation of transduction/effector mechanisms. More purified membrane preparations may be employed to examine the subcellular distribution of receptors or to enhance the specific binding signal-to-noise ratio. It is highly unlikely that binding of [3H]corticosterone to intracellular corticoid receptors constitutes a significant proportion of the radioligand bound in this filtration assay for several reasons. In-depth characterization of corticosteroid receptors in mammalian neuronal membranes has been hindered by limitations inherent in labeling low-affinity binding sites in amphipathic membranes, using amphipathic steroids." @default.
