AbstractMucous membrane pemphigoid belongs to a group of chronic inflammatory autoimmune blistering diseases, involving mucous membranes (buccal, eye, nasal, pharyngeal, laryngeal, esophageal and anogenital) and/or skin.Mucous membrane pemphigoid is also known as cicatricial pemphigoid, benign mucous membrane pemphigoid, bullous muco-synechial atrophic Lortat-Jacob dermatitis; and formerly it was named after its location: desquamative gingivitis, ocular pemphigus or oral pemphigus. The inicial lesion is a subepithelial bulla that heals with scarring. By direct inmunofluorescence (IFD) it is characteristically observed IgG and/or C3 (and occasionally IgA) lineal deposit at the basement membrane zone. Clinical findings and IFD are both necessary for the diagnosis of thisdisease. The main antigens involved in the pathogenesis of the subepithelial bulla of PM are the bullous pemphigoid antigen 2 (BPAg2, collagen XVII), laminin 332 (alfa 3, beta gamma 2 and 3) beta 4 integrin and alpha 6 integrin. There present a review of this very rare entity and its difficult early diagnosis and an update of Its pathogenesis(Dermatol. Argent., 2012, 18(2): 16-23).Keywords: mucous membrane pemphigoid, cicatricial pemphigoid." @default.
