- W1157777424 abstract "Publisher Summary The discovery of the ozone more than ten years ago has clearly shown that heterogeneous reactions on aerosol can play a large role in ozone photochemistry. In the stratosphere, low temperature reactions on nitric acid trihydrate (NAT) on water ice particles, or on particles consisting of ternary supercooled solutions of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and water, lead to rapid conversion of the “reservoir” species HC1 and C1ONO2 into active chlorine (C1, C10, C12O2) which act catalytically to rapidly destroy ozone. Because there is so much more particulate matter in the troposphere than in the stratosphere, it is most likely that they too play a significant role in tropospheric chemistry." @default.
