- W11637106 abstract "Paired correlations of nucleons of the superconducting type play an important role in nuclear BETA and gamma transitions, and should also be important in alpha decay. A theory of alpha decay was formulated within the framework of a superfluid model of the nucleus, and the effect of paired correlations of the superconducting type on the absolute probability of alpha decay, and especially, on the forbiddenness F was investigated. Calculated values of the forbiddenness F are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental values for the following, allowed alpha transitions of odd nuclei: Cf/sup 249/ yields Cm/sup 245/ , Cm/sup 245/ yields Pu/sup 241/, Cm /sup 243/ yields PU/sup 239/, 5, yields Am/sup 241/, Am/sup 243, yields Np/sup 239/, Am/sup 241/ yields Np/sup 237/, Am/sup 239/ yields Np/sup 235, and Np/sup 237/ yields Pa/ sup 233/. It is assumed that the quasi-particle is at the same level in the parent and daughter nuclei for an allowed alpha transition. In the case of a forbidden alpha transition of an odd nucleus, the alpha particle is formed from a number of proton pairs lying at levels close to the Fermi surface, and from neutrons in two different states f/sub 1/ and f/sub 2/. Hence, more » a forbidden alpha transition is much more improbable as compared to an allowed transition. A forbidden alpha transition to an excited state is more improbable than a transition to a hole state. Pair correlations are responsible for only a part of the decrease in the probability of an alpha transition. Part of the decrease in the probability of an alpha transition can be explained by a decrease in the formation of an alpha particle from nucleons which are at different levels. If pair correlations are taken into account, the agreement between theory and experiment is improved. (TTT) (ln Russian)« less" @default.
