What sets it apart from others?Write-Aid provides writing tutoring electronically for students who do not have the time or who prefer not to make an on-site tutoring appointment. Our goal is not merely to edit or fix student writing, but to help students develop their own writing skills. Rather than correcting mistakes, we identify weakness in the writing, explain why revision should be considered, and then provide resources for students to utilize in the revision process.3. What was the impetus to create or begin your program?There is a need for online writing tutoring, particularly because students today have so many demands outside college, which prevent them from availing themselves of more traditional tutoring opportunities. We also feel strongly that even though Write- Aid is an electronic service, we want to engage students in the writing process and help them to develop their ability to write and revise their own work. The end result of using Write Aid is that the student becomes a better writer, not that the paper be perfect.4. How are you structured? What types of personnel and resources are you utilizing?There are nine professional writing consultants who are a part of Write-Aid; all of them teach either developmental reading/writing courses or English composition courses. Each day, a consultant acts as farmer-evaluating student writing submissions and assigning them to the various writing consultants participating in Write-Aid that day. We are in the process of developing resources for use as tutorials. For example, we are creating digital minigrammar or organization and style lessons, with graphics, and posting them in the students' paper so that they can identify the problem and make the necessary changes. The brevity of the lessons and the digital design captures students' attention and guides them in their revision process. Write-Aid consultants have 48-72 hours to review a paper before returning it to students depending on the paper's length.We also reach out to professors, asking them to send out assignment instructions if they are requesting that their students use WriteAid, so that our writing consultants know the requirements of an assignment. …" @default.
