- W1170754367 abstract "Under normal circumstances, T cells confer cellular immunity by the specific recognition of peptides of foreign antigens which are presented by self-MHC molecules. The recognition of these peptide/ MHC complexes occurs through the clonotypic T cell receptor (TCR). Much attention has been focused on the TCR in the past several years. In particular, the characterization of TCR usage has been of central importance in several T cell mediated autoimmune diseases as well as in the protective immunity against viral and tumor antigens. A significant type of reactivity for which the TCR also has been studied is that of the recognition of allo-MHC molecules, which is relevant for transplantation immunology. Alloreactivity is a very aggressive and prevalent immune response in transplanted allografts and quite often leads to rejection of the graft. Therefore, the analysis of the T cells responsible for this activity could be useful in understanding the nature of alloreactivity in transplantation and might also be useful for the development of specific immune intervention. This review will focus on the TCR usage found in different models of alloreactivity." @default.
