- W1175489346 abstract "This paper applies inverse simulation methods to hypersonic vehicles for design evaluation and trajectory analysis. Inverse simulation is an efficient technique that computes the control inputs that are required for a desired system output. This allows the ability of a vehicle design to follow a given trajectory to be evaluated.The integration method of inverse simulation is utilised to develop a method which is flexible for vehicle and trajectory inputs. Physical equations of motion are developed based on a scramjet powered hypersonic vehicle concept. An iterative routine, utilising the Newton-Raphson method, is developed which determines the control inputs timesteps to achieve a given trajectory. Techniques to mitigate non-convergence of the numerical method and numerical inaccuracies within the routine are developed. The inverse simulation routine is verified by evaluating a number of test trajectories, including steep sinusoidal motion and altitude increase steps. The ability of the vehicle to successfully follow complicated trajectories is found to be limited at high velocities. The effect of the flap deflection actuator speed on the ability to follow trajectories is investigated for a step trajectory. It is found that increasing the motion limit allows the vehicle to follow a more complicated trajectory. The modifications made to the integration method are found to mitigate numerical error well, though some smoothing still must be applied to the data obtained." @default.
