• W121397233 abstract "Background and purpose: Elevated serum LDL and low HDL levels due to atherosclerosis have been shown to be one of ischemic stroke risk factors, apart from hypertension, hyperglycaemic, hyperthermia, advancing age, and stroke severity, which will influence patient’s morbidity and mortality. Besides, higher serum LDL level, slower Fractional Catabolic Levels (FCR) of LDL, and faster FCR of HDL were found after ischemic stroke attack. This study was aimed to asses the relationship between serum LDL levels of acute phase ischemic stroke patients with length of stay and time of death.Methods: This is an analytic observational study with cohort retrospective approach using medical records data. Subjects of this study are acute phase ischemic stroke patients in Dr. Kariadi Hospital Semarang.Results: 233 acute phase ischemic stroke patients were included in this study, divided to 190 (81,5%) patients discharged (alive) and 59 (18,5%) patients died. Mean value of serum LDL level on admission of discharged patients was lower than patients who died (133,53 mg/dl versus 139,19 mg/dl). Mean value of hospitalization time was 11 days, while mean value of death time was 6 days. Spearman correlation test and Somers’d correlation test show a significant positive but very weak correlation between on admission serum LDL level with length of stay, r=0,190(p<0,05) and r=0,125(p<0,05). Between on admission serum LDL level with time of death, there were found no correlation using Spearman correlation test, on the contrary, there were found a significant negative but very weak correlation using, Somers’d correlation test, r=-0,168 (p<0,05).Conclusions: Higher serum LDL level on admission results longer length of stay. Higher serum LDL level on admission results shortens time of death. Blood pressure and glucose blood level significantly influence patient’s length of stay and time of death.Keywords: Ischemic stroke, Serum LDL level, Length of Stay, Time of death" @default.
