- W122697221 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter describes the anatomy of jargon. The anatomy of language impairment is in need of reexamination using the new methods that are available to determine the extent and location of cerebral damage. These methods—namely, the radionucleide isotope scan (IS) and computerized tomography (CT)—can provide three-dimensional localizing information in a clinical setting. The striking language output in jargonaphasia has long intrigued clinicians and linguistics alike. It is hoped that defining the neural structures involved in jargonaphasia will provide some insight into the complex processes of language. The chapter reviews the literature of the localization of lesions in jargonaphasia and presents new material utilizing IS and CT localization. It also describes clinicopathological correlation. The extent of overlap among the cases of neologistic jargon is considerable, indicating a strong clinicoanatomical correlation. The chapter further presents case studies confirming the impression that certain structures are regularly affected in the brain when neologistic jargon is produced." @default.
