- W123229073 abstract "Summary Many in vitro and in vivo experiments carried out during the last decade have yielded valuable information about new pathways of the metabolism of free and conjugated oestrogens; in addition, factors regulating the secretion and influencing the metabolic fate of oestrogens have been studied by a number of authors. In the present paper, a brief survey has been made of some of the investigations which have recently been performed in our laboratory, and the following points will be dealt with in more detail. (1) Comparative studies of the metabolism of oestrone sulphate and free oestrone. (2) Oxidoreduction of oestrogens in the uterus of rats, using a new technique. (3) Perfusion of oestrogens through rabbit liver with special reference to the formation of oestradiol-17s and oestradiol-17α. (4) Characterization and possible mode of action of a new soluble enzyme which epimerises 16α:-to 16s-hydroxyoestrone and vice versa. (5) Quantitative studies on the metabolism of oestrogens by the adrenal gland, and intracellular localization of steroid hydroxylases in adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla. (6) Metabolism of oestrone in a paraganglioma, a tumour whose cells show close resemblence to the cells of the adrenal medulla. (7) Metabolism of 15-substituted oestrogens and biogenesis of 150-hydroxyoestriol. (8) Metabolic pathways leading to the formation of oestriol 160:-monoglueuro nide, oestriol 17s-monoglucuronide and oestriol 3-monoglucuronide, and the possible role of these glucuronides in the enterohepatic circulation of oestrogens. (9) Effects of treatment with steroid hormones and of the sexual status on the metabolism of oestrone by rat liver microsomes. (10) Dependence of the metabolism of oestrone in vitro on thyroid function. (11) Effects of 2-hydroxylated oestrogens on the enzymatic methylation of catechol amines and vice versa. (12) Characterization and quantitative determination of a 17 s-hydroxysteroid: NAD(P) oxidoreductase of placental origin in human serum during pregnancy" @default.
