- W123646715 abstract "Alan S. Kaufman Nadeen L. Kaufman Yale University School of Medicine Alan S. Kaufman, Ph.D., is Clinical Professor of Psychology at Yale University and was Co-editor (1992-2003) of the peer-reviewed journal Research in the Schools. He worked with David Wechsler in the development and standardization of the WISC-R, and has published, with Nadeen Kaufman, 11 cognitive, achievement, and neuropsychological tests, including the K-ABC, K-BIT, and K-TEA and the recent second editions of these tests (KABC-II, KBIT-2, KTEA-II). Alan has authored or co-authored 17 texts and more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals on the clinical and neuropsychological assessment of intelligence, many of which have greatly impacted interpretation of Wechsler's IQ scales. Kaufman won the APA Senior Scientist Award in 1997 (Division 16, School Psychology). Nadeen L. Kaufman, Ed. D., is co-author, with Alan, of the various Kaufman tests. These tests are influential worldwide, with the K-ABC currently being used in more than 20 countries. Nadeen, who co-edits with Alan the popular Wiley book series, Essentials of Assessment, is a Fellow of both APS and APA. She has been a teacher of learning-disabled children, school psychologist, learning disabilities specialist, Associate Editor of School Psychology Review, and founder-director of several psycho-educational clinics. She has also authored five books, including the 2001 text, Specific Learning Disabilities and Difficulties in Children and Adolescents: Psychological assessment and evaluation, as well as numerous articles, reviews, and book chapters in the fields of psychology and education. NAJP: What are you currently working on or developing? NK: We have two current new projects. One of them is the computerized tests that we are working on in France for the French-speaking population. The other one is a multi-media specific learning disabilities kind of mini course. AK: The course that we're working on is with Pearson Assessments. We are co-authoring this in-depth examination of current SLD controversies with Dawn Flanagan and Liz Lichtenberger. It deals, to a certain extent, with the impact of the new IDEA guidelines, but, what we're trying to do is put together a course that could be taken for CEUs that's going to have as its curriculum, instead of books, a series of videos of lectures as well as interviews with a lot of the leaders in the field. These leaders are in the field of learning disabilities within school psychology, neuropsychology, and special education, and they represent diverse viewpoints concerning cognitive assessment, Response-to-Intervention (RTI), and the integration of these two approaches to SLD diagnosis. This course is something that will be especially valuable for conducting in-service training in school systems, especially where they have a lot of school psychologists and special educators. It's going to be developed in different formats to allow professionals to take this course, for example, as a set of DVDs and Power Points to be given as a workshop or as an on-line course on the Internet. A lot of it is still being developed end edited. It will cover a lot of the key topics concerning cognitive assessment, neuropsychological assessment, interventions, and RTI. Ideally, the DVD-Power Point version of the multi-media SLD course will be available early in 2008 and the on-line course will be ready later in the year. Another exciting project that Nadeen mentioned, is a computerized test called the K-CLASSIC. We are working directly with a French test publisher who publishes French adaptations of Wechsler's scales, the KABC-II, and other leading psychological tests. It kind of surprises us that the U.S. seems to be slower to embrace any kind of computerized testing. The K-CLASSIC, for ages 6 to 10 years, is going to be a five sub-test battery that will be used primarily for screening and for helping psychologists and speech pathologists develop meaningful educational interventions. …" @default.
