- W124651010 abstract "Reaction-controlled vesiculation of single-chain surfacant mixtures is proposed as a versatile model system to study self-assembly processes coupled to chemical reactions. In particular, mixtures of single-chain cationic and anionic amphiphiles have proven to be useful self-vesiculating systems. The strong electrostatic interactions of the headgroups induce strong non-ideal behavior which leads eventually to the formation of closed-shell bilayer structures (vesicles). The use of amphoteric zwitterionic amphiphiles as components in the mixtures enabled the desing of switchable headgroup interactions by protonation/deprotonation equilibria (switch-box systems). Reaction-controlled self-assembly of amphiphilic membranes could be established in mixtures of N,N-dimethyl-N-dodecylamine oxide (DDAO) [1643-20-5] and sodium N-lauroyl-N-methyltaurinate (SLT) [4337-75-1]. Emphasis was directed to the in situ study of the micellar-vesicular reorganization. The amphiphilic mixtures were characterized by various physicochemical methods (electron microscopy, light scattering, pH titrations, etc.)." @default.
