To obtain maximum power per unit length of generator or maximum power density at any section it is therefore necessary to select the correct gas velocity for any given total head temperature. Using the simple one-dimensional equation for power gradient and density in the generator a method is presented here which enables the optimum Mach number for any given total head gas temperature to be calculated. Graphs are given of optimum Mach number vs. total temperature for “seeding” gases and temperature ranges of current interest." @default.
