Entgegen den Annahmen soziologischer Modernisierungs- und Systemtheorien mit ihren Hypothesen einer mehr oder weniger globalen evolutionären Entwicklung fortlaufender Säkularisierung, Rationalisierung und funktionalen Differenzierung hat die Bedeutung ethnischer, religiöser, nationaler und kultureller Zugehörigkeiten weltweit zugenommen. Vormals als traditionale Überreste vormoderner kultureller Muster angesehene Formen religiöser und ethnischer Identitäten und Gruppenbildungen sind überall auf der Welt wieder zu zentralen Aspekten der Strukturierung von Gesellschaften und der Definition sozialer und politischer Konflikte geworden." @default.
