- W12698728 abstract "Publisher Summary An acetylene-functional benzoxazine (BA-ea) resin is used to modify PMSEP resin. A variety of PMSEP/ BA-ea resins are prepared and characterized by rheology analysis, DSC, TGA, mechanical tests, etc. Its thermal decomposition characterization indicates that the cured PMSEP/BA-ea resins have the characteristic structures with naphthalene, polyene, Mannich bridge, etc. Polyarylacetylene resins are regarded as extremely heat-resistant polymers and can be used as thermally stable resin matrices for composites and as precursors for carbon/ carbon composites. The advantageous features of silicon-containing arylacetylene resins such as good processability, the absence of volatiles during curing, high decomposition temperatures, high residue yields after pyrolysis, excellent dielectric properties, high flame retardance, and high radiation resistance have aroused great interest among researchers. However, the applications of the silicon-containing arylacetylene resins are greatly limited by their brittleness, shrinkage during curing, and poor adhesion to reinforcements in composites. Polybenzoxazines constitute a recently developed class of thermosetting resins, which possess a unique combination of features, namely, flexibility in molecular design, near-zero volumetric change upon curing, no byproducts released during curing, glass transition temperature Tg much higher than cure temperature, fast mechanical property buildup, good thermal and flame retardance properties along with high mechanical performance, low water absorption, low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), good adhesion to materials, etc. Polybenzoxazines possess the fascinating characteristics for which a possible explanation is the formation of extensive hydrogen-bonding networks with high molecular polarity." @default.
