- W1271941139 abstract "Medical training with manikin-based simulation technology enables students to fine-tune their skills without compromising the safety of patients. 1 McCannel C.A. Reed D.C. An intelligent ophthalmic regional anesthesia training system based on capacitive sensing. Proceedings of the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC);2013:889–93. Google Scholar The OASiS consists of a manikin having anatomically accurate orbital and ocular structures with an integrated sensing system to provide quantitative and qualitative feedback to the trainee on the block performed. The aim of this study was to establish that OASiS improves the trainee's skills by providing training in the (a) identification of correct eye to be blocked, (b) identification of correct needle entry site for performing inferolateral block, (c) technique of proper administration of supplementary blocks (medial peribulbar block), (d) maneuvering of the needle in the intraorbital space without damaging the extraocular muscles or the globe, (e) aspiration of the syringe before administration of anesthesia, and (f) injecting local anesthetic solution within a safe rate. The aim was also to demonstrate that the improvement in the trainee's skills is owing to the real-time feedback provided by the training system and that the training outcomes are retained by the trainee over time." @default.
