- W12783311 abstract "1035 Learning Objectives We discuss the areas of concern for medication use in the nuclear medicine department. We discuss and identify the presence of adverse reactions and risk factors for medication administration. We correlate these findings with Joint Commission medication management standards and national patient safety goals. We discuss the importance of obtaining adequate patient history/records for health care and medications and show how they can potentially interact with medications administered in the nuclear medicine department. We discuss how contrast agents and radioactive nuclear materials are considered medications. We discuss administration, side effects, drug interactions and patient safety. We discuss the areas of concern for medication use in the nuclear medicine department. We discuss and identify the presence of adverse reactions and risk factors for medication administration in nuclear medicine imaging. We discuss the administration of various drugs in nuclear medicine which include: lasix, morphine, cholecystikinin, captopril, cimetidine, glucagon, phenobarbitol. We discuss why the clinical history and drugs patient may be taking can influence the decision to administer medications. We discuss the potential failure of communication by not securing adequate patient history and stress proper methods of patient identification with at least two patient identifiers. We will demonstrate several studies in nuclear medicine where medications are administered including: Hepatobiliary scans with morphine and cholecystikinin, Renal scan with lasix and captopril, cimetidine or glucagon for meckels9 diverticulum study, phenobarbitol for biliary atresia etc. We discuss the importance of obtaining adequate patient history/records for health care show how they can potentially interact with medications. We show a variety of actual imaging examinations requiring medications" @default.
