- W129879419 abstract "Changes in the polypeptide composition of photosystem II particles from peanut leaves systemi-cally infected with peanut green mosaic virus, were studied using sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The changes were examined in relation to changes in the oxygen evolution capacity of the particles. Oxygen evolution was reduced by 44% when compared with particles from healthy tissue samples. Photosystem I dependent oxygen uptake was not detected in photosystem II particles from either healthy or virus infected plants. Photosystem II particles from virus infected leaves were deficient, relative to controls, in polypeptides with apparent molecular masses of 14, 18, 19, 23 and 33 kDa, while three polypeptides, with apparent molecular masses of 34, 48 and 64 kDa, were only detected in particles from infected tissue. These observations, considered in the light of other work, suggest that the decreased oxygen evolution capacity of photosystem II in virus infected leaves is due to reductions in the levels of the five polypeptides." @default.
