• W132513633 abstract "This paper provides an extensive literature review on how society, families, and schools are entwined in a student's educational development and how these interactions influence the student's opinion of the value of education. It provides middle-school administrators and teachers a working guide for an educational environment that addresses the needs of at-risk middle-school students who have developed patterns of failure in the traditional school environment. It emphasizes that educators must find ways to compress school environments and reshape curricular and social ideas so that they are in accordance with students' life goals and those of industry. Subsequently, society should ask itself whether test scores or productive citizens are of greater importance. Suggestions for educational guidelines, based on questions posed to parents, educators, and students on what students need, are provided. The purpose of the guidelines is to help educators can develop a working model to be used and adapted to a community's needs. Such models should be based on findings that demonstrate students' need for a solid basis in the core subjects, their need to be accountable to themselves and others, and parents' need to become involved.
