- W132871344 abstract "Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has launched GSAT-1, GSAT-2 and GSAT-3 satellites by indigenously developed Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicles (GSLV-D1, GSLV-D2 and GSLV-F0) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), India, during April 2001, May 2003 and September 2004 respectively. The satellites were placed into GTO orbits and by subsequent manoeuvres these were put into geosynchronous orbits. Orbits were required to be determined to a good degree of accuracy during various stages of the mission. Since orbit manoeuvres were carried out within short intervals of time, the need for getting orbit determination results with very short arc data was very stringent. The Orbit Determination System (ODS) played a crucial role in realizing the objectives of these missions. Due to the continuously changing nature of the satellite’s orbit profile, the orbit determination process had to be repeated frequently after each of the manoeuvres with inputs available to the OD software varying from very short arc data to long arc data, and the mission requirements were realized. This paper highlights the performance of GSAT missions orbit determination system, which calibrated the accomplishment of the launch vehicles. The performance of the ODS during the initial phase operations of these missions is described in detail. The geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) solutions determined by the ODS showed that the indigenously developed GSLVs injected the spacecraft into GTO well within the launch vehicle quoted dispersions." @default.
