- W136314541 abstract "This chapter discusses a study to analyze the action of FMRF-amide and proctolin on Helix, Hirudo, Limulus , and Periplaneta neurons. In this study, same electrophysiological techniques were used for recording from the central nervous systems of the four species. Fine glass microelectrodes, filled with molar potassium acetate, were used for intracellular recordings with resistance in the range of 10–40 MΩ. The potentials were amplified using conventional methods and displayed for permanent records on a pen recorder. A number of different neuron types were used in Helix , while only Retzius cells were used in the leech ganglion. Cells in the midline of the dorsal surface of the thoracic ganglia were used in Periplaneta . Unidentified neurons in the abdominal ganglionic chain were used in Limulus . FMRF-amide was found to have potent and long lasting effects on a number of Helix neurons. The threshold responses were 1.6 × 10 −8 M and with higher concentrations, the responses could last for more than 45 min." @default.
