- W136395424 abstract "The application of e.s.r. to the study of ion-pairs is reviewed briefly in a general way. A distinction is drawn between the study of the chemical behaviour of ion pairs and the study of their structure. The mechanism of alkali metal hyperfine splitting in complexes of the chelate type is discussed. Studies of the asymmetric linewidth variations observed in the spectra of the complexes of di-o-mesitoyl benzene and alkali metals are described. It is suggested that in these complexes there is appreciable π-bonding and that the singly occupied orbital has appreciable metal valence shell p-character which largely determines the form of the dipolar coupling to the metal nucleus. If this model is correct the singly occupied orbital in the complexes must be of different symmetry from that in the anion-radical produced electrolytically." @default.
