- W13747139 abstract "This thesis revolves around Group1, which is a subunit within the business unit NCC Construction Sweden. Group1 has made several commitments according to the principles of Lean/Lean Construction. This thesis is mainly aimed at investigating the results of these commitments. Since the term was coined, Lean Production has been subject to ongoing discussion, development and enlargement. As a result of this, there are many different opinions about what it really means to operate Lean. A broader approach to Lean is however more common in today’s businesses. According to this, almost all commitments can be considered to be Lean, since the concept has been expanded to such an extent that it’s almost synonymous with common sense. Therefore, exploring how Group1 was working with Lean basically meant investigating what they did differently. Three different commitments where identified during an interview with the business manager. The commitments were all initiated quite recently and the amount of was data very limited. Move data would have been needed in order to make valid conclusions regarding Group1s financial development. Therefore, the three commitments were investigated separately. 1. Group1 has come a long way with the implementation of NCC Projectplanning. This is a new way of planning that aims to create a higher efficiency, through increased commitment and greater involvement in the planning process. Two different surveys were conducted, in order to investigate the results of NCC Projectplanning, one in design and one in production. The results indicate that NCC Projectplanning is fulfilling its purpose. However, they are showing that the new way of planning is currently working better in the production stage. The reason for this is identified and analyzed, which results in suggestions for improvement. vi 2. In the spring of 2010, Group1 started an internal competition in order to generate more suggestions for improvement. That year, Group1 generated 44 % of Region Syd’s total amount of suggestions. The results are indicating that internal competitions have a good potential to improve the suggestion system. The first step towards achieving a successful suggestion system is to motivate the employees. The number of submitted proposals would nearly tenfold if all of the region's subunits had conducted internal competitions (with the same result as Group 1). This would create the need of a better system for handling and implementing suggestions, which is discussed in the report. 3. Group1 has taken the initiative to develop and implement the Projecttable, which is a visualization/planning tool. Its main purpose is to facilitate the planning process, by creating a common and clear perception of the existing situation. Everyone have a positive attitude towards this new way of working, and several examples of its usefulness were given during the interviews. A number of suggestions for improvement are presented in the report, as well as a discussion regarding whether the concept should be implemented by additional subunits. (Less)" @default.
