- W137994181 abstract "Water buffaloes are known to have fewer sweat glands and are less tolerant of direct solar radiation. Most water buffaloes are found in the humid tropics, and approximately 90% of the world's water buffalo population is found in Asia. Buffaloes have a low heat tolerance; they need to be periodically cooled and are able to work only 5 to 6 hours on a given day. The chapter discusses two aspects: first, the changes of body-water turnover, distribution of volumes and compositions of body fluids under acute and short-term heat exposure; and second, the role of the kidneys in the maintenance of water and electrolyte homeostasis under acute and short-term heat exposure. The chapter discusses the influence of acute heat exposure and short-term heat exposure on changes in the turnover of body water, the volume of the blood, the rate of liquid flow from the rumen, and renal functions of animals." @default.
