- W139322170 abstract "Siliceous shales of the Jurassic Mazegawa Formation intercalated within a thick section of black shales are described. Chemical compositions of constituent minerals determined with the electronprobe microanalyser reveal that rhodochrosite, dolomite, and calcite coexist in a single sample. Dolomite rhombohedra are commonly rimmed with rhodochrosite. A cryptocrystalline filling of a radiolarian skeleton is composed of silica, chlorite, and micaceous clay mineral. Biostratigraphically, the Mazegawa Formation is assigned to the lower Titho-nian (approximately 145 Ma), whereas whole-rock samples give a Rb-Sr isochron age of 128 ± 3 Ma. K-Ar ages for four of the same group of samples average 129 Ma, ranging from 125 Ma to 133 Ma. the age of 128 Ma is interpreted as indicating the time when the whole rock became chemically closed with respect to the Rb-Sr system. the time difference (145 − 128 = 17 Ma) represents the duration of chemical diagenesis before the system was closed." @default.
