- W139324761 abstract "1075 Learning Objectives To present FDG-PET/CT images of a variety of pancreatic lesions other than invasive pancreatic duct cancer, investigate the usefulness and limitations of PET/CT, and discuss the roles of PET/CT for these diseases. We present PET/CT images from FDG-PET/CT examinations of pancreatic lesions other than invasive pancreatic duct cancer that we have treated. In the images of serous cystadenoma, no increased uptake was observed. No increased uptake was observed in either of the two cases of papillary mucinous adenoma of the pancreatic duct. Among the two cases of papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic duct, one case exhibited a high uptake with an SUVmax of 8.3 in the solid area, thus leading to a suspicion of malignancy based on the PET/CT images. The other case did not exhibit any increased uptake, but was pathologically malignant. Although these were cases of papillary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic duct, they involved intraepithelial carcinomas (carcinoma in situ). Solid-pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) exhibited an uptake with an SUVmax of 5.3 in the solid area and pathologically presented with invasion in the adipose tissue and pancreatic tissue as well as in the serum. This case was diagnosed as malignant SPT. Three cases of endocrine tumors showed low FDG uptake. In the case of a lymphoepithelial cyst, no uptake was observed. Although malignancy should be suspected when a high uptake is observed in the solid area of a pancreatic cystic lesion, it is believed that the usefulness of PET/CT is limited because there are cases in which the size of the solid area is small. We believe that it is also difficult to histologically determine the benignancy or malignancy in cases of pancreatic endocrine tumor and SPT. Regarding the role of PET/CT, while it is necessary to accumulate additional cases to evaluate benignancy or malignancy for these diseases, it is believed that, as in cases of invasive pancreatic duct cancer, PET/CT is useful in cases with a high uptake for determining the lesion range, including metastasis" @default.
