- W13996880 abstract "Immunoassays are usually performed as discrete tests—that is, a single analyte is measured in each assay tube. An alternative option that is attracting increasing interest is simultaneous multianalyte immunoassays in which two or more analytes are measured simultaneously in the same assay tube. A simultaneous multianalyte immunoassay has a number of potential advantages such as work simplification, increase in test throughput, and reduced overall cost per test. A simultaneous multianalyte immunoassay protocol is most attractive for analytes that are grouped in panels and in situations where a single positive test result in a group of tests is significant. The latter situation is the least technically demanding, because there is no need to distinguish which analyte(s) gave the positive result. Several practical hurdles limit the routine use of simultaneous multianalyte immunoassays. Cross-reactions, leading to false-positive or false-negative results on multiantibody-coated solid phases, and difficulties in optimizing the assays to cover the divergent concentration ranges for the individual analytes constitute two of the most important problems in the development of routine simultaneous immunoassays." @default.
