- W141162366 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the physiological and pathological significance of nickel ions in the regulation of coronary vascular tone based on a study. This study was designed to analyze further cardiovascular actions of exogenously administered nickel chloride (NiCl 2 ) in the isolated perfused rat heart and in the in situ dog heart, to study the possible action mechanism of nickel (Ni)-induced coronary vasoconstriction, to localize the source(s) of endogenous Ni release in experimental hemorrhagic shock in the rat, and to determine myocardial Ni release under normoxic and ischemic conditions in the dog. The finding in this experiment that Ni is continuously released from the normoxic myocardium raised the possibility that Ni may play an important role in the physiological local regulation of coronary vascular tone. Myocardial Ni release was significantly increased during myocardial ischemia induced by hemorrhagic shock in the rat or by mechanical occlusion of the coronary artery in the dog. This finding suggests the possible pathological significance of this trace metal in cardiovascular diseases, as released Ni reduces nutritive coronary blood flow that results in further myocardial damages/positive feedback loop." @default.
