- W1429034444 abstract "This chapter reviews the present state of selenazole compounds and their methods of preparation. Selenazole is a selenium-containing compound in the series of heterocyclic 5-membered ring azoles with two different heteroatoms, of which the first two members are oxazole and thiazole. Preparative work with this class of compounds is limited because the selenazole ring is relatively unstable and during substitution reactions it can easily be opened, usually with the formation of elementary selenium. The syntheses involving selenazoles—such as alkyl- and aryl-substituted selenazoles, amino-selenazoles, hydrazine-selenazoles, and other selenazole derivatives—are discussed in the chapter. The preparation of 2-isopropylidenehydrazino-selenazoles and 2-benzylidenehydrazino-selenazoles is described. The chemical properties of thiazoles and selenazoles are mutually similar. The reactivity of selenazoles is described by the electrophilic substitution including the following processes: nitration, sulfonation, halogenations, and azo coupling. Some other reactions are also carried out for the formation of selenazole derivatives—namely, quaternary salts and cyanine dyes of selenazoles, condensation with carbonyl compounds, condensation with p-nitrosodialkylanilines, oxidation to quinonoid dyes, and sulfanilamido–selenazole." @default.
