- W143070537 abstract "During the industrial production of wheat-based starch and vital gluten (Triticum aestivum) every year huge amounts of by products accrue. This by product - called wheat protein suspension - mainly consists of sugars, hemicelluloses and proteins. At present this wheat protein suspension is only uneconomically utilized as feeding material for different animals. The solid content of the non optimized wheat protein suspension is about 20 %.The subject of this dissertation was the development and optimisation of a wheat protein suspension for a later application as near-natural bonding agent from renewable resources in the wood based panel industry. The utilisation of this wheat protein suspension is possible because of the ingredients of this suspension. By the sugars as well as by the proteins bonding strengths between wood fibres or wood particles during the production of medium density fibreboards of particle boards can be realised. For the development and improvement of bonding agents and the later utilisation in industrial production of medium density fibreboards were analytical as well as technical aspects very important. Therefore the basic raw materials that were used in this dissertation - the near-natural bonding agent, the petrochemical based bonding agents and the industrial fibre material - were investigated by different analytical methods. The main focus of the research was on the development of the near-natural bonding agent, was on the one hand the continuous increase of the solid content in the wheat protein suspension considering the viscosity and the ingredients and on the other hand the utilization of the wheat protein suspension with common additives used in the industrial production of wood panels, e.g. hydrophobic substances and fungicides. The development of mixed condensates, consisting of wheat protein suspension and urea formaldehyde resin in different ratios and of wheat protein suspension and phenol formaldehyde resin in different ratios was another important research aspect. By changing the ratios of the near-natural bonding agent and the petrochemical based resin in the bonding agent, a possible substitution potential of petrochemical resins by the new wheat protein suspension were found out. The utilisation of the wheat protein suspension without petrochemical resins was analyzed by the production of medium density fibreboards in thicknesses from 4 mm up to 18 mm. The suitability of the mixed condensates and the pure wheat protein suspension were established by the mechanical-technological properties of the produced medium density fibreboards.Furthermore analytical tests belonging to the wood degradation of wheat protein and urea formaldehyde resin bonded medium density fibreboards by white- and brown rot fungi and by mould were done. The wood degradation was measured by mass loss of the medium density fibreboard samples infected with different wood destroying fungi. In further analytical tests the wood degradation, especially the degradation of lignin and celluloses in protein and urea formaldehyde resin bonded medium density fibreboards by white- and brown rot fungi and by mould, should be determined. Therefore small medium density fibreboard samples with 14C-u marked lignin and 14C-u marked celluloses were produced analogue to industrial production parameters. By this way it was possible to measure only the degradation of 14C-u marked lignin or 14C-u marked celluloses." @default.
