- W143429248 abstract "Recent studies have demonstrated that the metabolic fate of green tea catechins [(–)-epicatechin ((–)-EC), (–)-epicatechin-3-gallate (ECG) (–)-epigallocatechin (EGC) and (–)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)] in humans depends on intestinal metabolism, microbial metabolism, hepatic metabolism and chemical stability. It is evident that most catechins are mainly present as metabolites generated by methylation, glucuronidation, sulfation and microbial metabolism. No phase I oxidation metabolism is found in in vitro systems and in humans. Hydrolysis, dehydroxylation, hydrogenation, oxidation, decarboxylation and oxidative ring cleavage of four catechins have been observed as microbial metabolic pathways in in vitro microbial systems and in humans. Major metabolites of (–)-EC are conjugates of (–)-EC and 3-O-methyl-(–)-EC, and 5-(3″,4″-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone. Metabolites of ECG are not available in human plasma and urine – only the hydrolyzed metabolites, EC and gallic acid. The major metabolites of EGC are 4′-O-methyl-EGC, 4′-O-methyl-EGC-glucuronide, 4′-O-methyl-EGC-sulfate, 5-(3″,4″-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone and (–)-5-(3″,4″,5″-trihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone. The major metabolites of EGCG are 4′,4″-di-O-methyl-EGCG, 5-(3″,4″-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone, 5-(3″,5″-dihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone, (–)-5-(3″,4″,5″-trihydroxyphenyl)-γ-valerolactone, and their sulfates and glucuronides." @default.
