- W1441967589 abstract "This chapter examines the genetic regulation of hybrid tumor resistance and its possible in vitro correlates. It discusses the genetics of murine natural cell-mediated cytotoxicity (NCMC) and examines the relationship of NCMC to other forms of immunity. It discusses two phenotypes: relative resistance to tumor growth and relative expression of NCMC. Both these phenotypes range from virtually no resistance or NCMC to strong resistance and high NCMC. The control of natural killer (NK) activity in rodents and possible relationships between the regulation of NCMC and other forms of immunity are discussed in the chapter. It also discusses the mode of inheritance of natural cytotoxicity against the W/Fu G1 lymphoma in rats. In some strain-tumor combinations, NCMC in the mouse is inherited in a dominant fashion. However, gene dosage effects and gene complementation also appear to be operative. Both backcross analyses and studies using congenic mice indicate that NK cell reactivity is under polygenic control. The chapter considers the NK regulatory genes that are linked to the H-2 major immunogene complex are considered and discusses the Non-H-2 regulatory genes and complementation between H-2 and non-H-2 loci. It also compares the NCMC regulations with some of the properties or phenotypes that may affect NCMC or are under common genetic control and discusses the influence of genes controlling viral leukemogenesis on NCMC." @default.
