- W1447615095 abstract "Preakuammicine appears to be involved in the direct pathway to the Strychnos, Aspidosperma, and Iboga alkaloids, and its presence in very young seedlings of Vinca rosea has been established. Preakuammicine is almost certainly the precursor of akuammicine, a transformation that can also be achieved by treatment with base. Some interesting new transformations in the akuammicine–geissoschizine series have been reported, and the extensive rearrangement that occurs during the zinc–acid reduction of picraline has been unraveled. New occurrences of the picralima alkaloids and their derivatives are occasionally reported; they are summarized in this chapter. Nb-Methylakuammicine has previously been isolated from the bark of Hunteria eburnea, and it is now shown to be present in the seeds. Regional variations in alkaloid content have been summarized. Picralinal and picrinine were isolated from Rhazya orientalis grown in Britain rather than in its natural warm temperate habitat. The chapter discusses the recent contributions to the chemistry and the synthesis of the Picralima alkaloid. The complex nature of the reductions that can occur with the Picralima alkaloids is exemplified by the behavior of picraline toward zinc and hydrochloric acid that results in a skeletal modification and formation of an indolic ester (C21H28N2O2). (±)-akuammigine and (±)-tetrahydroalstonine have also been synthesized as part of a large program of synthesis directed toward the Cinchona and heteroyohimbine alkaloids." @default.
