The incubation procedure is discussed briefly because this should be modified to meet the requirements of different specific experimental studies; a more detailed description of this procedure applicable to the study of glomerular glucose and palmitie acid oxidation has been also reported. Metabolic studies of renal tissue using conventional slice or perfusion techniques reflect the overall activity of the different cell types that make up the kidney rather than the specific features of any of the nephron components. While the physiological function of the various parts of the nephron has been defined, the use of a purified glomerular isolate for metabolic studies is a development that facilitates investigation of both the quantitative and qualitative metabolic characteristics of this important nephron unit and may thus provide information not obtainable by means of other, more conventional techniques." @default.
