- W144834992 abstract "Publisher Summary This chapter discusses fluorescence photochemical techniques for the study of transport in cytoplasm and gytoplasmic models. There are many variations of instrumental design for fluorescence photobleaching recovery (FPR) measurements. The common features generally include a research microscope with epi-illumination, a source of intense light, a means for changing the intensity of the light by several orders of magnitude, a means for detecting the fluorescence, and a means for measuring the time dependence of the fluorescence recovery. The chapter also discusses cytoplasmic actin. The utilization of fluorescent analogs of cytoplasmic proteins to study the distribution and dynamics of specific cytoplasmic components is an established technique now referred to as fluorescence analog cytochemistry. The combination of this approach with FPR has provided valuable new perspectives. Photobleaching techniques may also be used to measure translational motion of labeled species across membrane barriers. The application of fluorescence photobleaching technique to the study of the structure and dynamics of cell cytoplasm and cytoplasmic components is a new and exciting area of investigation." @default.
