Numerous phenomena in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy depend on chemical and conformational dynamical properties of molecules and consequently NMR spectroscopy has emerged as a major approach for experimental investigation of such phenomena. Nuclear magnetic spin relaxation uniquely depends on both spatial and temporal fluctuations of nuclear spin interactions and enables structural, thermodynamic, and kinetic descriptions of complex dynamical processes in biological macromolecules. This article presents an overview of the theoretical and experimental approaches most commonly applied to characterize spin relaxation and dynamical processes in proteins and nucleic acids." @default.
