- W145281353 abstract "Research has shown that groupstend to be less cooperative in prisoner's dilemma games compared toindividuals. One hypothesis to explain this effect stems fromgroups' natural tendencies to protect themselves from harm andenhance their relative standing. However, an alternative hypothesisis that groups are more rational in game situations. The currentstudy attempted to distinguish between these two hypotheses bytesting whether groups score higher than individuals on measures ofcompetitiveness and pro-self (group) behavior, and lower thanindividuals on measures of prosocial behavior. The study alsoattempted to assess whether the pro-self tendencies of groups leadthem to behave less ethically than individuals. I tested thesehypotheses by using decomposed games and ethical dilemma problems. The results showed that groups were less prosocial than individualsand less likely than individuals to make the ethical choice in oneof the two ethical dilemmas. Implications and future researchdirections are discussed." @default.
