- W145366844 abstract "This chapter describes recent progress in research on carcinoma in situ (CIS) in adults. There is an increasing amount of information on the prevalence of CIS in different high-risk groups and on localized irradiation as a treatment. Efforts are being directed toward the development of a noninvasive screening method for CIS based on semen analysis. Such a technique would allow screening for early testicular cancer and thereby prevent manifest tumors. Screening for CIS of the testis is at present performed in a very limited number of centers and only some selected groups of patients are offered this service. This attitude is probably caused by the high cure rates for testicular cancer and the fact that this neoplasm is considered to be rare. On the other hand, testicular malignancy diagnosed at the stage of CIS is easily cured by means of orchidectomy or localized irradiation. The patient can, therefore, be spared the serious side effects of chemotherapy, lymph node dissection, or irradiation, which may be necessary for disseminated disease." @default.
