The results suggest that the dopaminergic neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) model—the primary animal model used for developing antiparkinsonian drugs including those designed to slow disease progression—does not reflect the pathophysiology of the disease to an extent that would make it a reliable predictor of therapeutic efficacy." @default.
