- W145616961 abstract "The Joint Information Systems (JISC) funded Audio Supported Enhanced Learning (ASEL) project used an Action Research methodology to examine the use of audio in four key areas of Higher Education (HE) educational practice, namely: self-reflection, formative and summative feedback, assessment, and collaborative learning. Six subject disciplines were involved (Law, Accountancy, Computing, Health, Optometry and Business). The intention of this paper is to present a subset from these subject disciplines; that of computing in order to provide examples of tutor engagement with audio using a variety of freely available web 2.0 social media. In addition to, present the impact of the use of audio by the tutor on learners whilst undertaking collaborative learning and assessment. Furthermore, this paper provides an overview of strategies which were developed and employed by the tutor for the effective and innovative use of audio and web 2.0 to support collaborative teaching, learning and assessment. Findings indicate the time taken by the tutor to produce the learning design and develop strategies incorporating audio files was outweighed by the benefits to learners. It was found that the creative use of audio resulted in learners co-constructively creating their own audio files using freely available web 2.0 social media whilst being actively engaged in collaborative learning and assessment. This lead to increased levels of student motivation, and facilitated a more personalised student learning experience. Tutors reflection in practice and internal examiner feedback on practice encouraged a redesign of the curriculum in terms of pedagogy, assessment, web 2.0 and audio technology use. Reflections in practice were captured in a shared blog using social media which could be accessed and commented upon by colleagues from across the UK higher education sector. Internal moderator feedback was captured via email to the tutors involved in this study and documented as part of the faculty quality assurance procedures. This paper will add to the debate on Web 2.0 technologies such as those freely available via the internet and provide insights for use of institutional resources for example; mp3 audio files and podcasts. Moreover, this paper will support academic staff in developing appropriate skills and expertise by sharing the role of the tutor in curriculum redesign and the impact on the learners‟ experience." @default.
