- W145648758 abstract "This chapter discusses the frequent participation of the adenine nucleotide system in phosphate transfer reactions that makes this system admirably suited for multisite control. Control in which adenine nucleotides are the substrate leads to a primitive self-regulation. The intra- and extra-mitochondrial coordination by equilibrium control has a remarkable effect on the intra- and extra-mitochondrial DPN system. With increasing phosphorylation potential, an increasing discrepancy of the redox potentials between the glycolytic and intramitochondrial DPN systems evolves. Intra-extramitochondrlal coordination presupposes a permeation of the adenine nucleotides through the mitochondrial membranes. In the case of isocitrate dehydrogenase, only the DPN has the modifier property, whereas isocitrate modifies the enzyme only indirectly by tightening the binding of DPN." @default.
