- W147960136 abstract "Chromosome numbers, ploidy levels and DNA content are presented for the fern and flowering plant flora of Germany. For each species data were compiled from floras, chromosome atlases and primary sources for basic chromosome number, chromosome number, chromosome number of specimen from Germany, abundance of chromosome races if more than one number exists within species, ploidy level based on chromosome number and basic number, and ploidy type with respect to dipolyor palaeopolyploidy. Each data set is referenced with literature source from which data where compiled. In total, 4 031 values for 3 203 taxa are listed. Additionally 859 unreliable or doubtful values are presented in brackets which should not be used in analyses. Chromosome number are unknown for 486 taxa most of which are apomictic (Rubus sect. Rubus (214), Ranunculus auricomus agg. (38), Hieracium (72), Alchemilla (24), Sorbus (10), 61 hybrids, 18 Oenothera-spp. and 49 other species). From German specimen 2256 values from 1985 species are present, i.e. 1674 species have no data from specimen sampled within Germany. In 2 620 species (81.8 %) only one chromosome number is known, whereas in 433 (13.5 %) there are two and in 150 species (4.7 %) there are more than two chromosome numbers. The smallest chromosome number is 2n = 6 (Callitriche hermaphroditica and Crepis capillaris), the largest accounts to 2n = 480 (Ophioglossum vulgatum). 31.4 % of the German species are diploid with haploid basic number, 64.5 % are polyploid or palaeopolyploid and in 4.1 % there are diploid and polyploid chromosome races. For genome size, data were compiled on DNA content (pg/2C-nucleus), chromosome number of specimen on which DNA value was investigated, quality of data on chromosome number, authorisation by Bennett in species in which several values are published. Data are referenced by literature source. Genome size is known for 684 species (18.6 % of the total species number) with 1 255 published values. DNA content ranges from 2C = 0.11 pg (Cardamine amara) and 2C = 0.15 pg (Arabidopsis thaliana) to 2C = 141 pg (Fritillaria meleagris) and 2C = 163 pg (Viscum album)." @default.
