- W1479785110 abstract "Riboflavin, which has many structural similarities to neutral red, inhibited dye uptake by both injury-activated corneal stromal cells and by normal corneal epithelial cells. Kinetic studies were undertaken to determine the nature of the inhibition produced. The solubility characteristics of riboflavin were unsatisfactory for kinetic studies so its derivatives, flavin adenine mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), were used. FMN and FAD both competitively inhibited the uptake of neutral red by epithelial cells. FAD competitively inhibited neutral red uptake by injury-activated corneal connective tissue cells. The kinetic data obtained with FMN on the connective tissue system proved to be too complex for analysis. Basic poly-1-amino acids had no effect on neutral red uptake by injury-activated corneal stromal cells. The possible significance of these findings in wound healing is discussed." @default.
