These compounds feature diverse di-, tri-, and tetracopper(II) cores with N,O-environment that act as highly efficient catalysts or catalyst precursors for (i) the mild oxidation of alkanes (typically cyclohexane as a model substrate) by H2O2 into alkyl hydroperoxides, alcohols, and ketones, and (ii) the hydrocarboxylation of Cn (n = 2−9) alkanes, by CO, H2O, and K2S2O8 into Cn+1 monocarboxylic acids. The most active catalytic systems are highlighted, the mechanisms and effects of main reaction parameters are discussed, and the preferable requirements toward the development of versatile Cu-based catalysts for the oxidative functionalization of alkanes, under mild conditions and in aqueous medium, are identified." @default.
