It is here that the larger number of medical mistakes are made. In this connection we, as internists, have been impressed by the frequency with which Marie-Strümpell, or ankylosing, spondylitis is unrecognized and mistakenly labelled. We are, furthermore, convinced of the importance of considering this somewhat rare malady in the diagnosis of any painful state of the torso or extremities.
