- W1483703721 abstract "The Gaussian beam (GB) is used to represent the source in high-frequency analysis such as the laser application, and also used for analysis of large reflector systems, large apertures and large antenna-radome structures. In numerical method, the GBs technique is of interest to accelerate the computation time of the Method of Moments. J. B. Keller and W. Streifer presented a complex source point (CSP) technique that generates a GB field in [1]. L. B. Felsen has presented the propagation and diffraction of GBs via the CSP [2]. Previous works on CSP-GB reflection and diffraction were published in [3–7]. The CSP together with the ray based Uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (UTD) is used to analyze the electromagnetic wave scattered by a PEC cylinder presented in [8–9]. The solutions in [8–9] are based on the UTD solution from [10] for a point source in real space. The CSP technique is simply the replacement of a point source in real space of UTD calculation by complex location. The GB properties such as beam waist and beam direction are depended on the complex parameter in the complex location. Moreover, the GB expansion can be used to synthesize the radiation pattern of the transmitting antenna in the propagation problem such as presented in [11]. Recently, the modified 3-D UTD scattering solution for impedance cylinder presented in [12] is obtained by heuristically modifying the classical 3-D UTD solution for a PEC curved surface [10] with impedance Pekeris' caret function [13–14]. Those equations are based on real source position. So far, there is no UTD solution available for the GB illumination. In this paper, the CSP technique for GB generation is employed to simulate the beam diffraction by an impedance cylinder. The solution in this paper is based on the modified 3-D UTD scattering solution for impedance cylinder [12]. The properties of cylinder surface are taken into account in this paper. The impedance surface value is approximated using material-coated flat surface approximation as presented in [15]. The proposed procedure is useful in the laser application." @default.
