- W1485193405 abstract "This chapter describes five widely used psychodynamic models of the mind. These models include: ego psychology; object relations theory; self psychology; attachment theory; and relational theory. For each model, the chapter provides the historical context in which the model arose, the basics of the model, and clinical implications of the model. Although different, each of these models is consistent with basic psychodynamic principles. The therapeutic techniques that they suggest are all focused on helping people to understand more about unconscious thoughts and feelings – about themselves and their relationships with others – and how these unconscious elements may impede their function and cause suffering. The different psychodynamic models help us to conceptualize the mind and the patients' problems in useful ways." @default.
