- W1485519617 abstract "Rocks of organic origin composed almost exclusively of algal deposits make up 40% of the section. Limestones and dolomites of chemical origin compose about 30% of the section. The third group consists of recrystallized and dolomitized sediments (cryptogenic), the primary texture of which has been almost completely altered. Sulfates are common, particularly in the rocks of chemical origin (evaporites). The distribution of these rock types shows a definite cyclicity, which is reflected clearly in the section by the content of clays. Since the concentration of radioactivity in carbonate rocks is a function of clay content, gamma logs can be used to trace the cyclicity. The amount of clay mineral decreases in a cycle from 30-45% at the base to 1-3% at the top. The distribution of calcium and magnesium is more complex. Calcium, content increases toward the middle of the cycle where it reaches 80-93%, then decreases. The amount of dolomite present changes inversely from high values at the base of a cycle to minimum in its middle and again a maximum at the top. The distribution of sulfates along the section is similar to that of magnesium. In many places the content of anhydrite at the base of a cycle is 2-3%, and at the top is 6-8%. In the middle it is either absent or infractions of a percent. There is also a systematic variation in rock type along a cy cle. Organic varieties predominate in the lower part, those with secondary alteration in the middle part, and organic and chemical types in the upper. Traces of erosion are present at the top of several cycles. Reservoir properties and secondary alteration vary along the cycle. See Fig. 1. The clayey dolomites generally have low values of open porosity and permeability. The organic limestone of the middle of the cycle has maximum values of these parameters. The top of the cycle has again low values. All that has been said has to do with porosity and permeability of the rocks and does not take into account the volume of fractures and cavities. It can be assumed that these features improve the properties of the reservoirs. Typical cycles are recognizable on a scale of 1:500. Three cycles from 4-5 to 15-16 m are distinguishable in the lower Yuyedey Formation. At a scale of 1:200 smaller cycles from 2-3 to 6 m are recognizable. During the first part of a cycle the source area for clastic material was close and consequently clay content is high. Then with further transgression a free connection was established with the open sea and the calcium carbonate middle part of the cycle was deposited. This was then followed by regression and erosion in some places. © Petroleum Geology: A digest of Russian literature on Petroleum G eology, 2013" @default.
